Erpekom-Ellikom is het buitenbeentje in de reeks van de Plusgebieden van het Nationaal Park.

Remarkasly close to the National Park

Abeek Valley is the exception in the National Park Plus areas.

The area straddles the Hoge Kempen and GrensPark Kempen~Broek. This is noticeable in the landscape that is especially characterized by the Abeek with its beautiful stream valley. The Abeek Valley is a nature reserve (Natuurpunt) spread across more than 180 ha. It is a fairly swampy area with forests, swamps and meadows. A lot of special animals and plants have their biotope here. A small herd of Galloway cattle help manage this area, which stretches across the municipalities of Peer and Meeuwen-Gruitrode.

There are four hiking trails mapped out from 4 to 9 km

In a nutshell:
  • Winding stream valley
  • Swamp forest
  • Meadows
  • Water mills
